Chöying no. 21

Apam Tertön — Le Vajra d'or de l'Esprit

Dra Thelgyur Q&C # 19

Dra Thelgyur Q&C #18 — The Characteristics of the Lamp of the Self-Arisen Sublime Knowledge, translated and commented by Jean-Luc Achard, Khyung-mkhar, PDF ed., July 2018, 9 pages.

Back cover:

The topic discussed in the present issue is centered upon the characteristics of the Lamp of the Self-Arisen Sublime Knowledge (shes rab rang byung gi sgron ma). This Lamp is the direct synonym of Awareness (rig pa) and is the state in which the other Lamps of Thögel practice arise naturally. It is interesting to note that, in his commentary on the root-text, Vimalamitra deeply insists on the “knowledge” aspect that characterizes Awareness—in particular the knowledge of the special lexicon of Dzogchen—and that he does not say a word about supposedly sensation-based experiences of Awareness generally advocated by those defining Rigpa as a “presence”.

Dra Thelgyur Q&C # 18

Dra Thelgyur Q&C #18 — The Characteristics of the Lamp of the Far-Reaching Lasso, translated and commented by Jean-Luc Achard, Khyung-mkhar, PDF ed., June 2018, 12 pages.

Back cover:

As its title indicates, the subject of the present issue discusses the characteristics of the Water Lamp of the Far-Reaching Lasso (rgyang zhags chu’i sgron ma). Vimalamitra’s Commentary on the Dra Thelgyur provides interesting data demonstrating how this Lamp is connected to classical topics such as Base, Path, and Fruit, as well as its being associated with the four elements, and not only the water element as its name would suggest.

The Natural State of the mind is pure and free from fluctuation. It is spontaneously accomplished and endowed with an epiphanic nature manifesting in the display of the marvels of Reality (chos nyid cho ‘phrul). Understanding the nature of this epiphany and of its “content” is one of the main keys enabling one to comprehend the true significance of the Great Perfection and to apprehend its arcana in an authentic manner.
